Stone Temple Pilots have apparently parted ways with vocalist and founding member Scott Weiland. A short statement released by the band late yesterday simply reads:
“Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland.”
News of his dismissal was actually ‘broken’ by former Velvet Revolver bandmate Slash during an radio interview with US radio station 93X from Minneapolis/St Paul a couple of months ago.
On the subject of Weiland’s insistence that he was, in fact, back in Velvet Revolver, Slash apparently replied “That’s because he got fired from STP.”
Weiland had subsequently, initially refuted the claims of his dismissal during an interview with Rolling Stone yesterday saying “I haven’t quit. I haven’t been fired,” but later changed his response, issuing the following:
I learned of my supposed “termination” from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press. Not sure how I can be “terminated” from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that’s something for the lawyers to figure out. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to seeing all of my fans on my solo tour which starts this Friday.
– Scott Weiland
The troubled front man is set to tour the US with his backing band The Wildabouts during March 2013.
